Step I: From Palermo Airport (PMO) to Palermo Port (Porto di Palermo)
After landing at Palermo Falcone-Borsellino Airport, the first step is to get to Palermo Port, the departure point for Liberty Lines ferries to Vulcano, Aeolian Islands, Sicily.
Airport Bus: Operated by Prestia e Comandè, with departures every 30 minutes. Stops near the port. Travel time: 50 minutes. Travel Duration: Approx. 40–50 minutes, depending on the mode of transportation. Ticket Purchase: Bus tickets can be purchased online, at the airport kiosk, or directly from the driver. Departure Points: Bus stops are located right outside the arrivals terminal. Tip: Plan for traffic during peak hours and aim to arrive at least 30 minutes before your ferry departure.
Step II: Liberty Lines Ferry to Vulcano
Once at Palermo Port, board the Liberty Lines ferry for a scenic and comfortable journey to Vulcano. This direct route takes approximately 4 hours, showcasing the beautiful coastline and the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Travel Duration: Approx. 4 hours. Ticket Purchase: Book tickets online, at Liberty Lines ticket counters, or via their app. Departure Points: Liberty Lines terminal at Porto di Palermo. Tip: Choose a seat near the window for the best views of the Aeolian Islands.
Once you dock at Vulcano, the adventure truly begins! From the port, you can rent bikes, scooters, or take a taxi to explore the island. Many accommodations offer shuttle services, so check with your booking beforehand. Be sure to visit the black sand beaches, natural mud baths, and scenic hiking trails.
